Complete Setup Guide

Below is a clear, user-friendly sequence that covers everything most users need to reliably set up a new hardware wallet. The guidance is educational — always consult official documentation for product-specific details.

1. Before you begin

Buy only from authorized sellers and keep the package sealed until you are ready. Prepare a pen and dedicated paper (or a steel backup) for your recovery seed; do not store the seed digitally.

2. Initialize the device

Connect the hardware wallet to a trusted computer or phone and follow the official host app prompts. Create a strong PIN and write down the recovery seed exactly as shown. Some devices offer 12 or 24-word seeds; record all words in order.

3. Backup & verify

Keep at least two physical backups in separate secure locations. Consider a steel backup for long-term resilience against fire or water. Test recovery by restoring the seed to a secondary device only if you are confident in your process.

4. Everyday use

When transacting, always verify recipient addresses and amounts on the device’s screen before approving. Use small test transactions when sending to new addresses. Keep firmware and companion software updated from official sources.

5. Advanced tips

Use passphrases to create hidden wallets, consider multi-signature setups for shared custody, and learn to use watch-only wallets for daily balances without exposing keys.

Security reminders

Never share your recovery seed. Beware of phishing attempts: official support will never ask for your seed or private keys. If you suspect compromise, move funds using a secure process after restoring to a clean device.
